John P. Alexander, who writes under the pen-name of John Apple, is a theoretical mathematician, a musician, a poet, an anthropologist, an athlete, an amateur psychologist and a theologian.

 

I am thoroughly versed in Christian theology; and I am well-versed in Jewish and Islamic theology. I have over 30 years experience in relating to all sorts and conditions of men.

 

I spent over 14 calendar years as a member of a musical show-band, traveling extensively all over the State of Mississippi.

 

I have published a book of poetry, entitled Reflections on Sam Stone; I have published numerous poems in scholarly anthologies; I also have published a journalistic essay on the Mississippi Delta Blues, which appeared in a French national magazine based in Paris; and I have published religious and patriotic articles in a variety of publications.

 

Objective:    To use my skills and talents in order to serve God and country.

Summary of

Experience: I have over 20 years experience with the music and liturgies of the Roman Catholic and Episcopal Churches. I am closely acquainted with the orders of worship of the United Methodist and Presbyterian Churches. I also am well-acquainted with the hymns of the Church of God and the Pentecostal Church, with African American and Country Gospel, with celebration music, and with the Baptist Hymnal.

 

Education:   Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, 1972-1974:  60 semester hours of credit in the College of Arts & Sciences.

 

University of the South, Sewanee, TN, 1982-1984: Two years of masters-level continuing-education units in the School of Theology.

 

University of Southern Mississippi, 1984-1986: 54 semester hours of credit in the College of Science & Technology.

 

Mississippi Delta Community College, 60 semester hours of credit in night-time classes. I received an Associate of Arts degree from this institution in 1995.

 

New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Parchman Campus, 2009-Present: This is a fully-accredited degree program.

 

Experience: Mississippi Department of Corrections

 

1977-1978    

I attended vocational school in the electric shop, where I learned how to

wire single-phase and three-phase electric motors, how to wire houses,

and how to run conduit.

 

1978-1994  

I spent my first career traveling all over the State of Mississippi while playing keyboards in the Parchman Band. We performed community service work, and were a public relations tool as roving ambassadors for the newly-formed "department of corrections."

 

1982-1984    

I took a two year sabbatical, during which time I studied theology. I

worked as an administrative clerk in a sensitive security/management

area: Parchman's Training Department. Here, I gained knowledge in the

field of security-operations.

 

1994-2000    

Due to the break-up of the Parchman Band, I took a job as the stockroom

clerk at the institutional laundry.

 

2000-2001    

I was recruited to work at Parchman's Welcome Center, where I played

piano for tour groups consisting mainly of students.

 

2001-2004

Due to changing MDOC policy, I was reassigned. I

worked as a janitor at a trusty camp.

 

2004-2005

I was transferred to the East Mississippi Correctional Facility where I was enrolled in the Bible College, and worked as the Chaplain's Assistant

 

2005-2007

I was transferred back into state custody, where I worked as a math tutor in the Adult Basic Education program. 

 

2007-2009

I worked in the kitchen at the MDOC Geriatric/Hospice unit.

 

2009-Present

I am enrolled in the Faith Based Initiative (FBI) Bible College.

 

Affiliations: 

 

Since 1988, I have played the piano for the Church of the Penitent Thief: Delta Catholic Ministries.

 

KAIROS, a revival movement within the Christian Church.

 

I am a member of the Fellowship of the Society of St. John the Evangelist, a religious community in Cambridge,  MA.
